Index consultations

Euronext Indices is committed to provide indices that respond to the best of its abilty to the needs of all stakeholders of its indices. In order to achieve this and in response to developments on the markets frequent feedback is sought among the known users of the indices. For major changes Euronext Indices will launch consultations from time to time via this page.

Each consultation will be open for at least 3 weeks.

A summary of the comments received will be published within 3 weeks after the consultation is closed. In principle the comments will be made public anonymously, indicating only the nature of person or institution providing the comment.

Taking into account the feedback received in the consultation, the Administrator will formulate a proposal for a rule change to the appropriate oversight committee for approval. As a rule such decision will be taken within 3 months after the decision.

Mergers and Acquisitions rules Euronext Indices

As part of the ongoing review of its corporate action treatment rules, Euronext Indices invites stakeholders to give their views on proposed changes and potential alternatives regarding mergers and acquisitions rules treatment.

This consultation will affect all indices managed by Euronext including Blue Chip indices CAC 40, AEX, BEL 20, ISEQ 20, PSI and OBX.

Euronext would like to consult clients on a change of the treatment of acquisitions in cash. For Free Float Market Capitalisation weighted Indices, Euronext is proposing to update the Free float of the target Company if a bid has become unconditional and the bidder has obtained control over less than 85%. In case the bidder obtained control over more than 85%, Euronext would like to remove the target company from the applicable Index. The current rules of Euronext do not allow for a change in Free float of the target Company.

For Non-Market Capitalisation weighted Indices (ie. Equal Weight Indices), Euronext proposes to keep the target Company in the Index if a bid has become unconditional and the bidder has obtained control over less than 85%. If bidder has obtained control over more than 85%, Euronext would like to remove the target company from the Index.

Stakeholders will have until the 30th of June to react to the consultation. The new rules, if validated, will be implemented in September 2022.
