German inflation accelerates slightly more than expected in September
By Maria Martinez and Miranda Murray
BERLIN, Sept 30 (Reuters) - German inflation accelerated slightly more than expected in September due to the energy price shock of the Iran war, following the trend in other big euro zone economies.
Inflation in Germany rose to 3.3% year-on-year, preliminary data from the federal statistics office showed on Wednesday.
Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast the EU-harmonised consumer price index at 3.2% in September, compared with 2.9% the month before.
Energy inflation rose to 14.9% in September from 10.5% in August.
Core inflation, which excludes the volatile prices of energy and food, remained unchanged for the third consecutive month at 2.4%.
The German data comes ahead of the euro zone inflation release on Friday. Inflation in the bloc is expected to come in at 3.6% in September, up from 3.2% in the previous month, according to economists polled by Reuters.
