Weaker June, but Growth in the First Half of the Year
10 Jul 2026 12:30 CEST
Issuer
Avinor AS
Nearly 5 million passengers travelled through Avinor’s airports in June. This
represents a decline of 1.8 per cent compared with June last year. At the same
time, the figures show overall growth of 2.1 per cent so far this year.
The June figures show slightly fewer travellers than in the same month in 2025.
The decline was greatest in the domestic market, where passenger numbers fell by
2.7 per cent. International traffic remained more stable, with a decrease of 0.6
per cent compared with June last year.
Flight Movements
Flight activity continues to remain high. The number of commercial flight
movements increased by 0.9 per cent in June, while total flight movements rose
by 0.4 per cent compared with the same month last year.
June Weaker Than Last Year, but Overall Positive Development So Far in 2026
So far in 2026, developments have been positive. From January through June,
Avinor recorded 25.9 million passengers, up 2.1 per cent compared with the same
period last year. Growth has been driven particularly by international traffic,
which has increased by 3.6 per cent year-to-date.
Several of the major airports performed well in June. Bergen Airport, Flesland
recorded growth of 5.2 per cent, while Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes increased
by 10.7 per cent compared with June last year.
At the same time, several of the largest airports experienced a decline,
including Oslo Airport (-3.7 per cent), Stavanger Airport, Sola (-4.4 per cent)
and Trondheim Airport, Værnes (-4.2 per cent).
Strong Growth at Bergen Airport Creating Need for Additional Capacity
In June, nearly 690,000 passengers travelled through Bergen Airport, Flesland.
So far this year, more than 3.3 million passengers have travelled to or from
Flesland, and passenger numbers have increased every month so far in 2026.
Year-to-date, there have been seven per cent more travellers than in the first
half of 2025.
“We continue to see strong interest in Western Norway as a destination, both
among Norwegian and international travellers. As a result, more airlines are
investing in Bergen and our region, contributing to growth in both passenger
numbers and route offerings,” says Helge Eidsnes, Airport Director at Bergen
Airport, Flesland.
“The strong growth, particularly in international traffic, means that Avinor is
now planning several expansion and capacity projects at Flesland. The goal is to
adapt the airport to expected traffic growth and ensure a good travel experience
for passengers in the years ahead,” Eidsnes adds.
Drone Traffic at the Same Level as Last Year
A total of 3,129 drone flights were registered during the first half of the
year. This is stable and on the same level as last year.
“If you plan to fly a drone this summer, we encourage you to familiarise
yourself thoroughly with the rules for drone operations. And remember that
drones are prohibited in the vicinity of all airports,” says Mats Gjertsen, Head
of Avinor’s Drone Programme.
