Stellantis unveils Smart Compact Van, sales to start from November
June 18 (Reuters) - Stellantis' commercial vehicles business unit, Stellantis Pro One, presented on Thursday the new version of its Compact Van family in a move aimed at reinforcing its best-selling range.
The Smart Compact Van (SMC) will have a flexible powertrain offering a new BEV engine with a range of up to 270 km and three internal combustion engines (two diesel and one petrol). Earlier this year Reuters reported that the carmaker was showing renewed interest in diesel after an EV retreat.
Order intake is scheduled to open in September, with market launch planned from November, while a mild-hybrid version will be available from next year.
• As part of its new business plan to 2030, Stellantis is aiming for more than 60 new vehicle launches and 50 significant refreshes, across all brands, to help claw back the market share the automaker has lost in several regions, including in North America and Europe, its largest ones
• The SMC is a complementary version of the current range, expected to have a base price lower than the rest of the range
• The names of the SMC version will be: Citroën Berlingo Van FIRST, Fiat Professional Doblò EasyPRO, Opel Combo START, PEUGEOT Partner ACTIVE
• The Compact Van family is the best-selling range within Stellantis globally and commands a 48.2% market share in Europe, the company said quoting year-to-date figures from April 2026
• The SMC interior renovation, aimed at professional drivers, includes the introduction of Flexiseat, a new passenger seat design which can be folded to increase load volume
• Flexiseat also includes the optional feature Modutable, to transform it into a support for mobile office or dining table.
