Grønn Vekst retains major contract for municipal biosolids management for Bergen, Norway
09 Jun 2026 12:06 CEST

Cambi ASA
Grønn Vekst, part of Cambi’s Solutions segment, has received an award
notification from Bergen municipality, through Bergen Vann, for the continuation
of a long-standing service agreement covering the handling and final disposal of
biosolids, or digestate, from Bergen Vann’s biogas operations in Bergen.
Following standard Norwegian public procurement procedures, the agreement is
expected to be signed after completion of the statutory standstill period,
subject to no successful appeals.
Grønn Vekst thus preserves an important contract in Norway. Service delivery
under the new contract is scheduled to start on 1 July 2026. The agreement is
Grønn Vekst’s largest ever, with a firm duration of five years and three
unilateral one-year extension options for the contracting authority, giving a
maximum duration of eight years.
The total contract value, including all option years, places the contract in
Cambi’s “Major” category for contract announcements, i.e., above NOK 200
million. The expected volume is expected to increase gradually during the
period.
Under the scope, Grønn Vekst will receive digestate in Bergen, transport it by
rail to Eastern Norway, and secure final utilisation through agriculture and
Grønn Vekst’s soil production facilities. The logistics solution reduces
long-distance haulage and limits CO2 emissions from transportation. Established
agricultural and soil-production outlets will return nutrients and organic
matter to productive use.
Bernd Anders Keller, CEO of Grønn Vekst, said:
“Grønn Vekst is pleased to be selected to continue supporting Bergen Vann with a
robust and circular solution for biosolids from Bergen. The assignment is
technically and logistically demanding, requiring reliable capacity,
environmental performance, and secure downstream outlets. Our rail-based
logistics and established network within agriculture and soil production provide
a scalable solution that returns valuable resources to productive use.”
Bergen Vann is the agency responsible for water supply and environmentally sound
wastewater management in the municipality of Bergen. The agency operates and
manages municipal water and wastewater facilities in Bergen municipality and
Bjørnafjorden municipality.

About Cambi and Grønn Vekst
Cambi is a global supplier of biogas technologies and solutions for wastewater
treatment and anaerobic digestion. Since 1992, the company has maintained market
leadership through continuous innovation and a portfolio of proven and patented
technologies. Cambi’s thermal hydrolysis process increases renewable energy
output, reduces operating costs, and minimises greenhouse gas emissions.
Grønn Vekst, part of Cambi’s Solutions segment, recycles waste fractions from
Norwegian municipalities and industry, including wastewater solids, garden
waste, and stonemeal. From these resources, it produces high-quality
compost-based soil products that substitute peat-based soils, returning
nutrients and carbon to the ground. Grønn Vekst is Norway’s largest producer of
bulk and peat-free soils, operates across 24 sites, and is a leading wastewater
solids recycling company.
