Blueberryfields Pan-American on the shores of Mayfield Lake in Mossyrock, Washington

Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management announces that its Kempen SDG Farmland Fund has acquired the Pan American and Othello blueberry farms in the Pacific Northwest, United States (US).

Together, the two assets comprise approximately 300 planted hectares and 405 hectares in total, across Oregon and Washington, US. The transaction represents a further step in the fund’s long-term strategy to build a diversified platform of productive farmland and high-quality permanent crops while delivering an attractive return on investment.

The investment increases the fund’s exposure to fruit crops which are experiencing growing consumer demand, while deepening the portfolio’s presence in a region renowned for reliable production conditions and strong local agricultural expertise.

Richard Jacobs, Head of Farmland Investments at Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management: “This acquisition is the next step in our commitment to developing a long-term investment platform for productive farmland. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of our investment beliefs. The Pan American and Othello blueberry farms combine high-quality farmland, favourable growing conditions, best-in-class infrastructure, and on-the-ground expertise. Together, they will anchor and enhance our investment approach in key regions for organic and established orchards, and should enable the fund to make an active, positive contribution to both our investment goals and our commitment to facilitate a significant shift towards sustainable farmland.”

Investing to meet the growing demand for permanent fruit crops

The Kempen SDG Farmland Fund aims to capitalise on the significant investment opportunities generated by sustainable food production and consumption trends. Blueberries are a staple fruit category in US household diets, and the Pacific Northwest plays a central role in supplying an increasing demand to a large, domestic market.

Combining enhanced infrastructure and operational depth with local market expertise

The combination of established orchards in Oregon and an organically managed site in Washington brings scale, diversity and long-term relevance to the portfolio.

The Oregon asset includes a modern packing and cold storage facility, increasing efficiencies from harvest to market. The infrastructure strengthens quality control, reduces handling time and enables consistent delivery during peak periods.

The day-to-day operation of the farms will continue in partnership with Silver Valley Farms, a specialist grower with deep regional experience. Their on‑the‑ground presence ensures that decisions are informed by local conditions, agronomy, and market timing.

Sustainability integrated from the outset

Each asset will be incorporated into the fund’s sustainability framework through farm-specific implementation plans and targets, establishing accountability from the start and ensuring new holdings contribute meaningfully to the fund’s climate and biodiversity objectives.
