Sørlandet Hospital and Kristiansand Municipality have today signed an agreement
with Veidekke for the construction of a joint emergency building and health
centre at Eg in Kristiansand. The contract is a design & build contract valued
at just over NOK 1.3 billion excluding VAT.
"Following a highly successful collaboration phase lasting approximately one
year, we are well positioned to deliver this important construction project.
Together we have developed robust solutions that will provide patients,
employees and relatives with a modern, efficient and high-quality facility. We
look forward to commencing the construction works, and we greatly appreciate the
confidence placed in us," says Jimmy Bengtsson, CEO of Veidekke.
Veidekke will construct a two-part healthcare facility that will bring together
the hospital's and several municipal emergency functions. The project will be
delivered as a joint undertaking with a shared project organisation and
coordinated planning, design, and construction. However, Sørlandet Hospital and
Kristiansand Municipality will each serve as the client for their respective
parts of the project, comprising 14,000 m² and 6,000 m² respectively.
"Users of the building have been closely involved throughout the process, and
this participation will continue. I would like to commend the staff from both
the hospital and the municipality who have contributed their experience and
expertise during the years of planning. Veidekke, their advisors and architects
now have the best possible foundation for the construction work," says Nina
Mevold, CEO of Sørlandet Hospital.
Around 100 municipal employees will work in the health centre, while
approximately 500 employees from the hospital's current emergency functions will
work in the new emergency building. In addition, surgeons from several
specialties will use the new operating theatres, and many employees in support
functions-such as diagnostics, technical services, housekeeping, porters, and
others-will perform tasks there.
Construction work will begin immediately, with planned completion in the fourth
quarter of 2029.
The assignment is included in Veidekke's order backlog for the first quarter of
2026.
