VAN LANSCHOT KEMPEN N.V.

Van Lanschot Kempen is further enhancing its client onboarding and risk assessment process for clients who have acquired their wealth through crypto investments by entering into a collaboration with Chainalysis, a blockchain intelligence platform, and Cense, a crypto compliance platform. This approach makes it easier for this client group to convert crypto assets into traditional investment opportunities.

Wendy Winkelhuijzen, Member of the Management Board of Van Lanschot Kempen, responsible for Private Banking Netherlands: “A growing number of people own crypto assets as part of their investment portfolios. Converting crypto assets into wealth management or investment advice services is often time-consuming, as the onboarding process can be complex. By combining blockchain data from Chainalysis with the reports from Cense, we can quickly gain insight into all the crypto transactions a client has made. This enables us to provide an objective and consistent assessment, including identification of any risks that may require additional client due diligence. If no irregularities are found, this significantly shortens the process. In this way, we ensure both safety and compliance with laws and regulations, while offering our clients greater convenience and a warm welcome.”

Research shows that 37% of Dutch people own crypto assets1, and this number is expected to grow in the coming years. This makes the Netherlands one of the frontrunners in crypto adoption within Europe2. For some investors who are fully invested in crypto assets, it can be difficult to invest with a traditional bank due to strict onboarding processes. Van Lanschot Kempen is making it easier for this group to access traditional investment opportunities.

Chainalysis introduced its first investigative tool for crypto assets in 2015. Today, crypto exchanges, regulators, and financial institutions around the world use its services. The onboarding process, which operates through the Cense platform, assesses all of a (prospective) client’s crypto transactions on an anonymized basis using integrated data from Chainalysis. This process simplifies and automates the customer due diligence procedures when onboarding crypto assets, ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and countering the financing of terrorism (CFT) regulations.
