More International Travelers and a Drone Milestone in April
13 May 2025 13:00 CEST
Issuer
Avinor AS
In April, 4.3 million passengers used Avinor's airports. This represents an
increase of three percent compared to April 2024.
The number of international travelers continues to grow significantly. Across
all Avinor airports, there was an 11 percent increase in international travelers
in April. So far this year, the increase has been eight percent.
Domestically, there was a one percent decrease in travelers in April alone, but
year-to-date, there has been a four percent growth.
"April was influenced by the fact that Easter fell in this month this year,
compared to March last year. This has a positive impact on the number of
international travelers and a negative impact on domestic traffic, viewed in
isolation," says Gaute Skallerud Riise, Director of Traffic Development at
Avinor. "When looking at the first four months of the year (January – April),
which provides a better perspective on the development, we see that the positive
trend of a growing international market continues. Incoming travelers to Norway
are the main driver of this growth. There is also positive development
domestically. Overall, we see a growth of five percent in the period from
January to April," Riise adds.
Flight Movements
There were 52,458 commercial flight movements in April. This is three percent
fewer than in April 2024, but year-to-date, there has been a two percent
increase in flight movements.
Significant Differences Between Airports
There was a three percent increase in travelers in April this year compared to
last year across all Avinor airports. The four largest airports (DSL = Oslo,
Bergen, Trondheim, and Stavanger) also saw a combined increase of three percent.
The regional airports (DRL = the rest of the airports) experienced a total
increase of six percent in April. Tromsø airport saw a remarkable 14 percent
increase compared to April last year.
Increase in Cargo
Cargo volumes also continue to grow, with an 18 percent increase in April
compared to April last year.
Over 15,000 Drone Users Registered in April
In April, 2,614 drone flight plans were reported, meaning flights registered in
Ninox Drone.
Compared to the same month last year, there has been a 25 percent increase,
which shows that more and more people see the value of registering their drone
flight plans, says Mats Gjertsen, who leads Avinor's drone program.
"In addition, we are very pleased to have surpassed 15,000 registered users in
Ninox Drone, as we now enter the peak season for drone flights. It is clear that
drone operators want to fly legally and consider others in the airspace – and we
fully support this," concludes Mats Gjertsen.
