Oslo, Norway - December 5, 2024 - Smartoptics, a leading provider of optical
networking solutions, today announced that Eurotransplant, an organ allocation
network based in the Netherlands, has switched to a Smartoptics solution for
interconnecting its data centers. Given the nature of Eurotransplant's
activities, security and reliability are critical. The Smartoptics solution is
cost-efficient, easy to use and increases security with easier encryption
management. Eurotransplant now also has full control over its equipment, cutting
managed service costs.
Eurotransplant coordinates the allocation of donor organs across multiple
countries, ensuring that organs are matched efficiently and fairly to patients
in need. Given the critical nature of these operations, secure and reliable data
center interconnection is essential to maintain real-time communication and data
integrity, ultimately saving lives.
Eurotransplant interconnects two data centers in Amsterdam with its HQ in
Leiden. By switching to Smartoptics transponders, transceivers and passive
multiplexers, this mission-critical network is now more cost-efficient and
easier to manage. Eurotransplant now also has full control over the network
instead of having to pay for managed service as in the past. The total cost of
ownership (TCO) is reduced by 40% within five years with the solution, which was
selected and implemented in close collaboration with integration partner ncubed.
"Eurotransplant turned to us to help them accelerate the growth of their network
in a cost-efficient manner. We are proud that our proven solutions based on
Smartoptics products have cut TCO nearly in half for Eurotransplant. This
deployment is a shining example of how we put the customer's needs first and
foremost in our approach," says Michael Ataman, CEO, ncubed
"Eurotransplant is a success story of why it's smart to switch to Smartoptics,
in terms of cost efficiency, ease of use, security and performance. ncubed's
customer-centric and transparent approach to supporting the customer is well
aligned with our own values, and we all collaborate closely and openly to
provide solutions optimized for Eurotransplant's needs," says Pieter Bakker, Key
Account Manager Benelux, Smartoptics
Smartoptics' simple and robust encryption methods help Eurotransplant enhance
security. Encryption keys can now be easily generated instead of having to
manually renew encryption certificates. The network is also fully redundant and
secure from battery outages that could compromise encryption
"Switching to Smartoptics helped us greatly improve cost efficiency, ease of
use, and network security. Renewing encryption certificates used to be such a
pain that we used one encryption certificate for the whole network. Now it's so
much easier with Smartoptics that we have enhanced our security by generating a
unique key for each link. I also appreciate that Smartoptics is easy to
communicate with directly, that ncubed supports this, and that we are not forced
into higher bit rates before we need them," says Wouter van der Logt,
Infrastructure & Security Architect, Eurotransplant.
