Capsol Technologies ASA (Capsol) and Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW) announce a carbon
capture demonstration campaign at Swedish Mälarenergi's combined heat and power
(bio-CHP) plant in Västerås, Sweden. The demonstration unit will commence
operations in November 2024 as part of a rental agreement between SFW and
Capsol.

Mälarenergi and SFW have signed an agreement under which SFW will provide a
mobile carbon capture demonstration facility and Mälarenergi will host the
corresponding operation activities at their biomass plant in Västerås, Sweden.
The mobile carbon capture unit, delivered by Capsol, is based on the Hot
Potassium Carbonate (HPC) process, incorporating the patented EoP® heat recovery
technology by Capsol.

The demonstration campaign will provide valuable data on the performance of the
technical solution for Mälarenergi's specific flue gas conditions that can be
used in optimizing the planned full-scale capture plant at Mälarenergi, which
will reduce emissions by approximately 400,000 tons of CO2 each year.

"Carbon capture has great potential to counteract the climate crisis. What we
need to move forward with our investigative work is plant-specific knowledge of
how the technology can be applied to the combined heat and power plant in
Västerås, in the most resource-efficient and optimal way possible. That is what
we are now going to investigate, practically and on site," says Niklas Gunnar,
CEO of Mälarenergi.

The HPC process has a CO2 capture rate exceeding 90% and produces high-purity
(<99%) CO2. The electricity-powered technology produces low-temperature heat,
contributing to sustainable heat production and low energy penalty. The
potassium carbonate solvent is safe and non-toxic, making the HPC solution eco
-friendly and fit for residential areas.

In October 2023, SFW and Capsol entered into an agreement for the delivery of
two CapsolGo® demonstration campaigns to be executed within SFW's global client
base. The companies have already conducted one testing campaign at Växjö Energi
AB's biomass plant in Sweden.

SFW and Capsol continue close cooperation in the Nordics, developing and
demonstrating innovative, concrete ways to mitigate climate change.

Capsol Technologies' traction within biomass and energy-from-waste (EfW) to
date:

·
In total, Capsol Technologies has signed technology license
agreements, engineering studies and CapsolGo® demonstration campaigns for EfW
and biomass plants totaling a potential of more than 7 million tons of CO2 to be
captured annually.

·
In July 2022, Capsol was awarded a license agreement for using CapsolEoP® at
Stockholm Exergi's biomass-powered combined heat and power plant Värtaverket in
Stockholm, Sweden.

·
In December 2023, Capsol was awarded a frame license agreement for using
CapsolEoP® at a EfW plant of a European utility.

·
In March 2024, Capsol signed a preliminary license agreement for KVA Linth's EfW
plant located in Switzerland.

·
Capsol has executed a CapsolGo® carbon capture demonstration campaign at
Öresundskraft's EfW plant Filbornaverket in Helsingborg, Sweden.

·
Capsol has executed a 12-month CapsolGo® demonstration campaign for a major
German energy company, including a campaign on an EfW plant.

·
Capsol has executed a CapsolGo® demonstration campaign at EEW's EfW site in
Hannover, Germany.

·
In October 2023, Capsol signed a contract for the delivery of two CapsolGo®
demonstration campaigns to be executed at Sumitomo SHI FW's client base. The
first campaign has been completed at Växjö Energi AB's Sandvik biomass plant in
Växjö.
