NEW YORK, Oct 28 (Reuters) - The US dollar was mostly flat against major currencies on Wednesday after the Fed delivered an expected rate decision, while the New Zealand dollar fell sharply after the country's central bank surprisingly left interest rates unchanged.

The Fed held interest rates steady, as expected, opting to delay any changes to borrowing costs until after next week's US midterm elections and awaiting further data on the path of inflation.

The euro was up 0.09% against the dollar at $1.1134. Against the Japanese yen, the dollar was up 0.21% to 158.20 yen.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against a basket of six other currencies, was flat at 102.36.
