Italy's Eni, Hera complete €100-million environmental hub in Ravenna
MILAN, June 16 (Reuters) - Italian energy group Eni and local utility Hera said on Tuesday they had completed a €100-million ($116 million) environmental hub in Ravenna, northeast Italy, for circular economy activities and industrial waste management.
• The Ravenna Environmental Hub covers 26 hectares.
• It was developed through Eni's unit Eni Rewind and Hera's waste management division Herambiente.
• The project, launched in 2019, includes a multifunctional waste pre-treatment platform operated by HEA, a joint venture between Hera and Eni.
• The HEA platform will treat up to 60,000 tonnes of special solid and liquid waste per year from industrial activities and recovery projects.
• The hub also hosts an Eni Rewind biorecovery plant with an annual capacity of 80,000 tonnes to treat hydrocarbon-contaminated soils from remediation activities.
• It includes a 6 megawatt peak photovoltaic plant built by Eni-controlled Plenitude, which began operating in 2024.
• The solar plant covers 11 hectares and has more than 10,000 panels.
• The companies said an experimental energy storage system using vanadium flow batteries was completed at the site in April 2026 and connected to the solar plant.
• The plants are expected to start operating in July.
