Traffic Figures for February: More International Travelers – Stable Domestic Travel
11 Mar 2025 13:00 CET
Issuer
Avinor AS
In February, 3.6 million travelers used Avinor's airports. This is an increase
of 2 percent compared to February 2024. There is a slight increase in the number
of domestic travelers, but for international travelers, the number went up by 6
percent.
In February last year, 1,359,878 passengers traveled between Norway and abroad.
This year, the number has increased to 1,438,674 travelers.
-The growth in the number of international travelers is still influenced by the
strong increase in tourism to Norway. Norway is an attractive destination, and
we are now experiencing strong growth during the winter season. This applies to
travelers from Europe, North America, and Asia. This is where we find the
explanation for the increase in passenger numbers, explains Gaute Skallerud
Riise, Vice President Traffic Development at Avinor.
No Increase in Flight Movements
There were 45,549 flight movements in February. This is at the same level as
February 2024. -With a still limited development in the number of flight
movements, the load factor continues to rise also for February. Overall, the
load factor was 71.8 percent, which is up over one percentage point compared to
the same month last year. This is positive for capacity utilization in aviation,
but it is also an expression of the significant delivery challenges airlines are
facing. It affects the route offerings in the market, concludes Riise.
Still the Greatest Growth for Smaller Airports
For all Avinor's airports combined, there are 2 percent more travelers in
February this year than in February last year. Looking at the major airports
Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, and Stavanger (DSL), there is little change compared to
February last year, with a combined increase of 1 percent.
It is the regional airports (DRL) that had the greatest combined growth in
February, with an increase of 8 percent.
More Legal Drone Flights
In February, 1870 drone flights were reported in Ninox Drone - Avinor's system
for managing drones. – This is an increase of around fifty percent compared to
February 2024, says Mats Gjertsen, who leads Avinor's drone program.
-Even in the winter months, where there is normally lower drone activity, we see
continuous growth in the use of Ninox Drone, and this is good, says Gjertsen. -
Unfortunately, there are still some who cannot or choose not to follow the rules
for drone flying. We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the
regulations before flying and use Ninox Drone for legal flights. The rules are
clearly outlined at www.avinor.no/droner, concludes Gjertsen.
