Eckerö Group continues its commitment to sustainable and efficient maritime
transport by acquiring
the vessel M/S Sailor. The ship will be operated by the company’s subsidiary
Eckerö Link Ab. M/S
Sailor will replace M/S Fjärdvägen on the route between Långnäs and Naantali,
marking a strategic
step aligned with the Eckerö Group’s long-term vision of offering “floating
bridges” between regions
and creating a cohesive, sustainable transport chain across the Baltic Sea.
The acquisition of M/S Sailor enables Eckerö Link to offer increased capacity,
improved energy
efficiency, and potential for future development in both freight and passenger
traffic. This
strengthens Åland’s role as a hub for maritime transport and creates new
opportunities for both
business and society.
“The connection between Åland and mainland Finland has long been the missing
link in our offering.
With M/S Sailor, we are now taking the next step to ensure a modern, reliable,
and sustainable
transport solution for the future,” says Björn Blomqvist, CEO of the Eckerö
Group.
Eckerö Link focuses on integrating freight traffic and logistics solutions
within the group’s structure,
benefiting both business and society. With M/S Sailor, Eckerö Link can further
optimize fuel
consumption, energy efficiency, and cargo coordination—factors that are crucial
in today’s
competitive and climate-conscious transport sector.
“Our ambition is to be a reliable partner for the future of maritime transport,
with local roots and a
global perspective. With M/S Sailor, we strengthen our position and are ready to
meet future
challenges and opportunities,” says Jonas Henriksson, CEO of Eckerö Link Ab.
The transaction is a natural step in the Eckerö Group’s strategy to offer
sustainable and natural
transport solutions across the sea, where maritime transport is the obvious
choice for both
environmental and efficiency reasons.
