Royal Bank of Scotland Group is one of the largest European banking groups. Income breaks down by activity as follows:
- finance, investment, and market banking (22.6%): activities related to business banking, leasing, standard and specialized bank financing (financing for acquisitions, projects, air and space assets, etc.), stock operations, etc.;
- commercial banking (47.3%) : activities related to retail banking (owned, at the end of 2008, 1,628 offices in the United Kingdom), private and offshore banking;
- insurance (10.4%; British No. 2);
- other (19.7%): ABN Amro, services, etc.
At the end of 2008, the group had EUR656.9 billion in current deposits and EUR898.5 billion in current loans. Geographically, income breaks down as follows: the United Kingdom (40%), Europe (35.5%), the United States (14.3%) and other (10.2%).
