Scatec starts commercial operation of the 60 MW Tozeur solar power plant in Tunisia

Oslo/Tunis, 16 April 2026: Scatec ASA, a leading renewable energy provider,
and Aeolus SAS (Aeolus), part of Toyota Tsusho Group, have reached commercial
operations date (COD) of the 60 MW Tozeur solar power plant in Tunisia with
retroactive effect from 4 March 2026. The project will generate predictable
revenues under a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tunisian state
utility Société Tunisienne de l'Electricité et du Gaz (STEG).
The 60 MW Tozeur solar power plant has been built in parallel with the Sidi
Bouzid 60 MW solar plant, which reached COD in March with retroactive effect
to 1 January 2026. The plants were awarded through a government tender
process, and form part of Tunisia's broader strategy to decarbonise its power
sector and strengthen energy security. Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur are the first
Scatec-developed projects to reach commercial operations in Tunisia, marking a
key milestone in the company's expansion in North Africa.
"With Tozeur now in operation alongside Sidi Bouzid, we are establishing a
solid platform for growth in Tunisia. These projects demonstrate both our
execution capabilities and the attractiveness of the market. With three
additional projects already in our backlog, we are well positioned to continue
scaling our presence and supporting the country's transition to renewable
energy," says Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec.
Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur are together expected to produce approximately 288 GWh
of clean electricity annually, equivalent to an estimated abatement of more
than 115,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. Scatec owns 51% of the
projects, with Aeolus holding the remaining 49%. Scatec will provide
Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and Asset Management (AM) services for the
projects.
