The Norwegian Competition Authority has approved NorgesGruppen ASA’s acquisition
of NMD AS, including the pharmacy chain concepts Vitusapotek and Ditt Apotek,
from McKesson Corporation. Completion of the transaction will take place on 31
January 2026.
The acquisition means that one of Norway’s three major pharmacy chains will be
owned by a Norwegian company. NMD, with a total of 391 pharmacies across Norway
and more than 3,000 employees including its wholesale operations, will be
continued as an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of NorgesGruppen.
“The acquisition is strategically important as it strengthens Norwegian
pharmaceutical preparedness and access to pharmacy products throughout the
country,” says Runar Hollevik, CEO of NorgesGruppen.
The transaction represents a natural step in NorgesGruppen’s long-term strategy
and supports the company’s vision of making everyday life better for people.
